L'Almanach 16 : Georges Pelletier

Georges Pelletier is a ceramic artist born in Brussels in 1938. In 1955 he studied at the Ecole Supérieure Nationale des Métiers d’Art (National College of Arts and Crafts). He has worked in Claude Pantzer’s studio for three years, where he was taught numerous techniques which he has always wished to further develop and improve.
Between 1956 and 1962, he has collaborated with Raphael Giarousso, working together to create new models for a type of extremely popular pottery, the Accolay potteries in Burgundy. He has always made unique pieces, where aestheticism meets humor. Numerous vendors were selling their production along the roadway during the golden age of the RN6, which crosses through the village. By using a chromed nickel thread for his lamps and articulated characters, Georges Pelletier has given a new impulse to this type of pottery. 

Georges Pelletier settled in Paris in 1961, where he exhibited his work at the Saint-Ouen flea market. There he was noticed by an interior decorator from Bobois, a store for which he produced many light fixtures until 1971. Since 1973, the artist has worked in Cannes and has collaborated with various galleries. The near entirety of the lamps and mirrors exhibited in L’Almanach 16 has been especially designed for the exhibition at Le Consortium Museum.
