Poised at the intersection of video art and immersive installation, the work of Sara Sadik (born in 1994 in Bordeaux) is typified by a singular style and makes use of new technologies, video game codes and rap punchlines. Sadik describes her artistic approach, steeped in cultural references to the Maghrebi diaspora in France, using the term "beurcore", a neologism intended to transcend stereotypes associated with what’s generally known as “urban culture”. Straddling the gap between fiction, video games and reality TV, Sadik’s videos are set in virtual words and feature young men facing off with one another (Carnalito full option, 2020) or navigating Grand Theft Auto-like environments (Khtobtogone, 2021). The artist employs computer-generated imagery and sophisticated 3D animation to create imaginary universes where freedom reigns and no cultural codes are marginalized. Documenting the identity construction of a youth community, she transports it into a fictional universe where it can flourish unhindered in all its specificity.
For "L’Almanach 23", Sara Sadik has produced a new video to be screened in the Consortium’s impressive white box.
